Weekly Picks and Misc for Aug 10
Darius Jones - fLuXkit Vancouver (i̶t̶s suite but sacred) This album has me speechless. It will undoubtedly be very, very high on my year-end list. A co-release from Northern Spy and We Jazz, two of the top independent record labels.
Kenneth Jimenez, Michaël Attias, Francisco Mela - Caribú It’s been a few years since Attias released his solo album échos la nuit, and I can’t express how excited I am to hear him again. This trio with Jimenez and Mela is dynamite.
Satoko Fujii Quartet - After Fifteen Years, Live At Buddy I am a huge fan of Fujii’s, yet somehow I had never listened to this quartet, which had a brilliant run of albums from about 2001–2005. Trumpet, electric bass, piano, and drums, a mind-bending book of compositions, and the palpable thrill of a group reuniting for fun.
